North Dakota Pipeline Association

The North Dakota Pipeline Association (NDPA) is comprised of pipeline operators in North Dakota that are dedicated to promoting pipeline safety by providing information for excavators, state residents, businesses, emergency responders and public officials.

Approximately 7,000 miles of pipelines crisscross North Dakota, safely transporting natural gas, crude and other energy products every day to homes, businesses and to other parts of the country.  Pipelines transport products that are part of our every day life and contribute to North Dakota’s community tax base.

The North Dakota Public Service Commission inspects, regulates and enforces intrastate gas pipeline safety requirements.  The Office of Pipeline Safety (OPS), within the U. S. Department of Transportation, Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) inspects, regulates and enforces interstate gas pipeline safety requirements and both interstate and intrastate liquid pipeline safety requirements.

Individuals who will be excavating near underground pipelines in North Dakota are required by law to contact their local One-Call center by dialing 811 at least two business days prior to beginning their project unless they meet exemption requirements outlined in North Dakota’s damage prevention law.
