National Pipeline Safety Day Proclaimed
Members of the U.S. House of Representatives recently took action to designate June 10 as National Pipeline Safety Day. The measure that was sponsored by Congressman Rick Larson of Bellingham, Wash., and passed by Congress, seeks to promote pipeline safety and encourage state and local governments to observe the day. The resolution also encourages pipeline operators and other stakeholders to use the day to promote greater pipeline awareness and safety.
In other industry recognition, the Common Ground Alliance, a national organization dedicated to underground damage prevention, recently proclaimed April as “Safe Digging Month.” Excavation damage is one of the leading causes of pipeline accidents.
Supporters of both declarations hope to bring greater attention to pipeline issues, ultimately leading to enhanced pipeline safety and safer communities.
