School Pipeline Safety Program
Purpose
The School Pipeline Safety Program is a collaborative effort involving the Pipeline Association for Public Awareness and the Danielle Dawn Smalley Foundation. The outreach efforts are intended to increase pipeline safety awareness and knowledge among school officials focusing on the following objectives:
- To provide specific pipeline safety information to school administrators and appropriate school faculty.
- To provide general pipeline safety educational materials for all faculty and students at affected schools.
- To provide training and guidance for industry personnel communicating with schools about pipeline safety
Scope
The program is intended to provide safety information to schools that would be directly impacted by a pipeline incident.
Program Elements
The primary elements in the program include: an annual mailing of pipeline safety information (including a letter, pipeline safety brochure, and a school specific poster containing pipeline location map and other relevant information), in person visits with school officials at least once every four years, and the creation of a school specific web site for ongoing communications.
Specific Program Activities
Annual School Enrollment:
- Complete and validate school contact information
- Conduct baseline survey
- Identify pipeline field representatives
- Prepare school aerial map
- Complete customized school web page
Annual Deliverables:
- Email launch of website for school officials by March 31, 2010
- Conduct school and district annual survey by March 31, 2010
- School Poster and annual letter mailed in April
- Preliminary school visit schedule with field representatives by March 31, 2010
Mailing Activities:
- Design and print customized school poster for each school
- Assemble and mail materials (letter, brochure and school specific poster)

Field Representative Support:
- Coordinate annual enrollment
- Prepare and post quarterly communicate reports
- Coordinate school visit schedule
- Prepare and provide communication reports for special requests (i.e. audits, etc)
- Prepare and provide annual survey results
- Ongoing education for school specific pipeline safety communication
- Bi-annual education web meetings
Dues
The annual program dues are $450 per school. This is an annual fee, which may be adjusted each year based on program objectives and participation levels. Members will be required to make a four-year commitment to each school so all site visits can be completed.

Companies interested in participating should indicate their intention to do so by sending an email to info@pipelinawareness.org. Members will be requested to fill out and submit a completed School Information Form for each school they sponsor.
